The Role a Hairdresser Plays in Our Lives

hairdresser |ˈhe(ə)rˌdresər|nounperson who cuts and styles hair as an occupation.
New Year's Day is a great day to reflect on how we've had the honor to touch so many lives in our community. As hairdressers, we are innately sensitive to human needs.  The simple act of hairdressing and your trust in us is not to be taken for granted.  The word touch in this case has a double meaning, first as I mentioned above, (touching lives) and second, touch in the sense that you've allowed us to physically touch you. This is a privilege you've given us, and it is our goal to meet your expectations.

Hairdressing is an occupation that dates back to ancient times. Greek writers, Homer and Aristophanes both mention hairdressing in their writings. In many ancient cultures hairdressers were given a very high status. Even back then, was it realized, how important the special relationship was between a individual and their hairdresser. In ancient Egypt, the wealthy had personal hairdressers who lived with them while in ancient Rome the hairdresser held a role as servant or slave.

Hairdressing was first considered a profession in the 1600's. It was in Europe during that time that the word "hairdresser" was first coined. The European fashion at this time for wealthy women was to wear large, complex and intricate styles that were maintained by personal maids (hairdresser) who spent hours creating these designs.

Twentieth century hairdressing, or hairdressing as we know it today, is offered in social spaces like Salon Central, where people come together to socialize, relax and enjoy their time.

This year as always, Salon Central is committed to continuing our education and we will strive to provide you the services you would expect from a team of professionals.  We take extreme pride in our profession, and are thankful that you have chosen us, to touch your lives, and help you achieve your beauty goals for "2014".

We've come a long way baby!
